Day Twenty-Five: Prepare and Hasten

Sleepers Wake! A Voice Astounds Us
(German)

“Sleepers, wake!” A voice astounds us,
the shout of rampart-guards surrounds us:
“Awake, Jerusalem, arise!”
Midnight’s peace their cry has broken,
their urgent summons clearly spoken:
“The time has come, O maidens wise!
Rise up, and give us light;
the Bridegroom is in sight.
Alleluia!
Your lamps prepare and hasten there,
that you the wedding feast may share.”

Though it seems like we’ve been waiting a long time for the bridegroom to come, the call to stay awake, to be ready rings in our ears. What does it mean for us to be ready to answer the cry for help in that comes in the middle of what seems like a very long night? The light is dawning, the new day approaches. But still we wait.

“Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Matthew 25:13

Prayer Prompt: Consider the ways God is calling you to help make the world ready. Ask for God’s help.
