Day Twenty-Seven : Angelic Invitation

Angels We Have Heard on High
 (France)

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plain
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strain

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be?
Which inspire your heavenly songs?

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ, the Lord, the newborn King.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem and see! This is the invitation for us. God’s glory is no longer reserved for the heavenly courts because God has joined us here – God With Us – Emmanuel. We have a share in celebration of the angels and the excitement of the shepherds because God has not abandoned us.

“The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: 11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11

Prayer Prompt: Take note of glorious things – a sunrise, a friend, the smell of cinnamon – and sing with the angels.
