Day Twenty-Three: Emerging from the Dark

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her,
that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill made low,
the crooked straight, and the rough places plain.

Isaiah’s words of comfort help us make the turn toward hope. God promises the end of strife and calls us to prepare the “highway” in advance of the Messiah’s arrival.  We may feel the heaviness of injustice, but we are also part of creating the future where justice and righteousness prevail.

Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
and all people shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
Isaiah 40:5
